Blood orange is native to Sicily and is zesty and slightly more tart than the more common sweet orange. Its uses are similar, but the aroma is bolder and tangier. They are usually more deeply pigmented than sweet oranges, definitely more red than orange.
They blend really well with ginger, turmeric, nutmeg, cinnamon, and cloves.
